Bike, walk, and ride the bus to work during Active Commute Week, presented by Grand Valley State University, Meijer, Metro Health, Priority Health, The Rapid, Steelcase, Grand Rapids Community College, Alger Bikes, Amway, The Spoke Folks, West Michigan Bike and Fitness, and the Greater Grand Rapids Bicycle Coalition.

Active Commute Week Challenge - Active Commuting Competition for Businesses and Individuals

A weeklong competition for businesses and individuals in Greater Grand Rapids. Commuters track online how often they commute to and from work using active transportation: cycling, walking (including running, wheelchair, skating, boarding), riding the bus, and carpooling.
Participants are eligible for daily prizes and the business with the highest trip average wins the Corporate Trophy. The individual with the most trips receives a plaque and a deluxe bicycle tune-up package (valued at $90) from West Michigan Bike and Fitness. Metro Health Professional Building - Lower Level Conference Rooms - 2122 Health Dr. SW, Wyoming - This class will teach you the rules of biking as well as some great tips to keep you safe on the roads. Group Rides
GVSU Connecting Campuses Ride - Wednesday, May 16, 5:30pm
Riders meet at either the Alumni House on the Allendale campus (1 Campus Dr.) or the Bicycle Factory (201 Front Ave. SW) at the downtown Grand Rapids campus. The route follows Lake Michigan Dr. and O'Brien St. between Allendale and Grand Rapids. Riders have the choice of riding out and back or riding one-way and hopping on The Rapid Route 50 bus back to their starting point. Register here!

Bike to Work Day Rally Stops & Mayor Heartwell's Bike Ride to Work

Join Mayor George Heartwell and commute to work by bike on Friday, May 18! On your commute take a break at one of the Bike to Work Day Rally Stops.
Stay tuned for details on Mayor Heartwell's commute to City Hall by bicycle.
Greater Grand Rapids Bicycle Coalition volunteers at the Rally Stops will hand out coffee, snacks, and giveaways from 7:00 to 9:00am to show support for cyclists who commute. Rally Stops will be set up along bicycle commuting corridors--stop by these businesses for a snack on-the-go and giveaways from local bike shops and corporations:

Active Commute Today LIVE! - Live Bands, Minor Bike Tune-Ups, and the Active Commute Week Challenge Awards

Active Commute Today LIVE! will feature live bands on the station platform, and at 6:00pm emcee Tommy Allen will present awards to the winning individual and business in the Active Commute Week Challenge.
Alger Bikes will discuss safe commuting and perform minor bike tune ups (safety inspections and brake and derailleur adjustments), and The Spoke Folks community bike shop will have benches and tools for you to work on your bike. Vendors supporting active commuting will be present with interactive booths and information. Attendees are welcome to continue the celebration across the street at Founders Brewing Company.
