Active Commute Week Challenge

Monday, May 14 to Friday, May 18.

The Active Commute Week Challenge is a weeklong competition for businesses and individuals in Greater Grand Rapids from Monday, May 14 to Friday, May 18.

Challenge participants include:  Amway, Grand Rapids Community College, Grand Rapids Public Schools, Grand Valley State University, Meijer, Metro Health, Priority Health, Steelcase, and West Michigan Bike and Fitness.

Commuters track online how often they commute to and from work using active transportation:

• cycling
• walking (including running, wheelchair, skating, boarding)
• riding the bus
• carpooling and vanpooling

How to Register

Businesses:  Please e-mail welintrn@gvsu.edu to register as a participating organization by 5:00pm on Thursday, May 10. Your organization will then be included in the online selection of participating organizations for your employees to choose from.

Individuals (representing an organization or just as yourself):  No registration required! Simply complete the online form each day indicating how many trips you made. If you are representing an organization select that organization from the drop box on the form.

Daily Prizes!

Individual participants are eligible for daily prizes. Each day a random participant in the Challenge will win the following:

• May 14: $100 Meijer gift card
• May 15: $100 Meijer gift card
• May 16: $100 Meijer gift card
• May 17: $100 Meijer gift card
• May 18: Gift certificate for a $90 deluxe bicycle tune-up from West Michigan Bike and Fitness

Awards!

• The business with the highest participant trip average wins the Active Commute Week Challenge Corporate Trophy.
• The individual with the most trips receives a plaque and a gift certificate for a $90 deluxe bicycle tune-up from West Michigan Bike and Fitness.
• All participants are eligible to win the individual challenge, including employees of participating businesses.

Winners will be announced Friday, May 18 at 6:00pm at Active Commute Today LIVE! at Rapid Central Station. Festivities will run from 4:30-7:30pm, including bands and active commuting vendors.

Eligibility

• Open to employees of participating businesses and individuals.
• Only current employees may submit forms for a business.

Trip Calculation

• A “trip” is a one-way commute from home to work or from work to home. 

Contest Period

• Begins:  12:00am (midnight) - Monday, May 14
• Ends:  12:00pm (noon) – Friday, May 18

Daily Drawings

• Each form submission is entered into the daily prize drawing.
• Name and e-mail must be on the submission form.
