Our Partner Organizations
Rapid Wheelmen Bicycle Club
The Rapid Wheelmen Bicycle Club is an official constituent organization of the Greater Grand Rapids Bicycle Coalition. The Rapid Wheelmen is now looking to GGRBC to lead bicycling advocacy efforts in metropolitan Grand Rapids.
The Rapid Wheelmen was organized in April, 1970 in the back room of Alger Schwinn Cyclery, which was then located in the Alger Heights district in southeast Grand Rapids. Early activities centered around club rides, meetings, picnics, and camp-outs. The club hosted its first invitational ride the “One Hundred Grand” in 1973. 1973 was also the year of the oil embargo which led to a shortage of bicycles and a boost in membership.
The Rapid Wheelmen enjoy hosting invitational rides like the One Hundred Grand and the Colorburst. Over the years the club has branched out into racing, mountain biking, additional invitational rides, safety education programs, and fund raising for charities. The core activities of the Rapid Wheelmen are the monthly meetings, weekly rides, a newsletter, and enthusiastic members! Weekly rides include all speeds, distances, and terrains, as well as competitive events.
The Rapid Wheelmen welcomes new members of all abilities. Members receive a monthly newsletter, and are welcome on all club rides and monthly meetings. They welcome individuals, families, racers, and tandem enthusiasts. Find us on Facebook!
West Michigan Mountain Biking Alliance
The West Michigan Mountain Biking Alliance (WMMBA) is an official constituent organization of the Greater Grand Rapids Bicycle Coalition. We partner with WMMBA to advocate for the interests of the growing number of local and out-of-town mountain bikers who enjoy the expanding network of single track in metropolitan Grand Rapids. (Outside Magazine named Grand Rapids its 2010 Best Town for Mountain Biking, and Grand Rapids was Bike magazine's mountain biking destination of the month for November 2010!)
The service area of WMMBA encompasses Allegan County north to Manistee County and from the Lake Michigan shore eastward to Montcalm and Ionia counties.
The mission of WMMBA is to advocate for mountain biking and to build and maintain natural surface trails for mountain biking. Find us on Facebook!
