Mission and Vision

Mission

Changing Greater Grand Rapids into a safe bicycling community, and promoting the benefits of cycling for health, recreation, and the environment.

Vision

The Greater Grand Rapids Bicycle Coalition will be the community’s recognized bicycling advocacy organization. We will offer solutions, resources, and counsel to those who seek to improve the cycling environment.

We will help change the way communities view and plan for cyclists in road and trail design to create a more bicycle-friendly community that provides opportunities for safe riding conditions to all user groups.

Why a Coalition?

Thriving bicycle advocacy organizations are active in major metropolitan areas throughout North America. The Greater Grand Rapids Bicycle Coalition fills that role in Greater Grand Rapids as a grassroots coalition of advocates representing a variety of bicycling interest groups. GGRBC presents a unified voice for those who cycle for transportation, recreation, touring, and competition. Our members are disabled and senior bicyclists, bicycle commuters, mountain bikers, bicycle club members, bicycle trail supporters, and road, cyclocross, and BMX racers.

GGRBC’s board includes representatives from the Rapid Wheelmen Bicycle Club, the Western Chapter of the Michigan Mountain Biking Association, and local bicycle-industry retailers and manufacturers.

All of us in the Coalition share a vision for a more bicycle friendly community that provides opportunities for safe riding conditions to all user groups. Our diversity is a strength--GGRBC is able to draw on the experience and resources of its varied members and constituent organizations. And, by serving as a spokesperson and advocate for our diverse constituency, GGRBC gives each member and partner organization a stronger voice.
